Outreach & Impact

When girls and women step up and insist their voices are heard, they change themselves and they change the world.

GIRL TALK is more than just a film, it is a compelling tale of how women and girls fight to challenge negative social perceptions and power imbalances, and spotlights the power of sisterhood to change themselves and society. We want to use this film as a tool to address the issues, open meaningful discussions and promote positive change.

GIRL TALK addresses many issues and one of the primary goals of our Outreach & Impact is to not only address these issues, but also open constructive discussions. These discussions will hopefully help people understand the issues and find ways to improve and correct them. The primary issues we are focused on are:

  • Recognizing gender bias, judgments and obstacles women and girls face
  • Examining how we currently teach young girls how to deal with these situations
  • Encouraging women to find their own voices
  • Improving how society values women’s voices

This film will resonate with a variety of different audiences, but we will work especially close with organizations whose missions align with ours and who are actively working to address and progress the issues we are focused on.

Core audiences

  • Debate organizations
  • Female leaders – both individual and groups of past, present and future leaders
  • Girls empowerment and advocacy organizations

Additional audiences

  • Teachers and educators
  • Parents
  • Students of all ages
  • Feminist / ERA organizations
  • Organizations for women in professions such as politics, law, STEM, etc.
  • General population interested in debate

We are reaching a wide variety of audiences through many different elements. While all of these elements involved the film, we want GIRL TALK to also be used as a tool to uplift and highlight existing movements and work being done. These elements are:

Screenings

Community screenings are a great way to t show the film and include discussions about our mission and the key issues. These events not only show the film to a variety of audiences, but also create safe spaces to share experiences, learn from others and find ways to get involved. Screening types include:

  • Festivals – good for introducing the film and getting people interested in the film
  • Community – events with partner organizations
  • Educational – using the film in classrooms and/or part of educational coursework

Supplemental and educational materials

Additional funding will allow us to create a collection of resources that can help get conversations started. These materials will also serve as inspirational tools that people can use to get ideas about how to impact their communities and get involved in existing movements. The supplemental materials can be in the form of lesson plans, discussion guides, links to partner organizations, etc.
